Made for the e-bike

Around our house in St. Primus, the Turnersee, Klopeiner See, Kleinsee and Gösselsdorfer See lie just a few minutes apart by bike – linked by quiet back roads, farm tracks and gentle hills.

Included in your stay

  • Safe, free chargingYou can charge your e-bike batteries with us free of charge – so you set off every morning with a full battery.
  • Sheltered bike storageYour bikes are kept safe from wind and weather – so you can come back in the evening without a worry.

For all guests, at no extra charge. Just let us know in your enquiry that you are bringing e-bikes.

The region offers around 1,500 kilometres of cycle routes: from the leisurely lake loop straight from our front door and the Drava Cycle Path along the Völkermarkter Stausee to tours with great views to the foot of the Petzen. With motor assistance, the hills between the lakes and even longer day trips into the Jauntal become a relaxed pleasure.

The best time to ride: early & late summer

May, June and September are the best months here for e-bikers: daytime highs between 21 and 25 °C, quiet paths and a landscape that is in bloom in early summer and bathed in soft light in late summer.

On long-term average, highs are around 21 °C in May, 25 °C in June and a pleasant 21 °C again in September – exactly the temperatures at which you can enjoy longer stages and climbs at a relaxed pace. In high summer, by contrast, the thermometer climbs to 26–27 °C and on many days well above, and July and August bring the most rainy days and afternoon thunderstorms.

And then there is what no statistic shows: in May, June and September you have the cycle paths around the lakes and along the Drava almost to yourself, and the inns and lidos are quiet. In September the clear air gives wonderful long-distance views of the Petzen, Hochobir and the Karawanks – and in September the lake water is still warm enough for a cooling dip after your ride. Your battery likes it mild too: it performs best at moderate temperatures.

Five favourite tours – all from our front door

From the leisurely lake loop to a day tour to the foot of the Petzen: you can start every one of these tours right at our house – no car, no bike rack.

The Kleinsee near St. Kanzian in early summer: water lilies, reeds and forest, with the mountains behind

3-Lakes Loop: Turnersee – Kleinsee – Klopeiner See

Distance approx.
18 km
Climb approx.
190 m
Difficulty
easy

Start: right from the front door

The classic lakes loop passes only about 150 m from our house: to the Turnersee with its reed-fringed bays, via Grabelsdorf and the Süduferstraße to the turquoise Klopeiner See, on to the peaceful Kleinsee and then a leisurely ride back to St. Primus via St. Veit im Jauntal – mostly on quiet, tarmac back roads and cycle paths.

  • Bike Break at the Turnersee with an e-bike charging station
  • Kleinsee with water lilies and a belt of reeds
  • Swim stops at three lakes
Water lilies in the Sablatnigmoor, with forest and the Karawanks behind

4-Lakes Loop with the Gösselsdorfer See

Distance approx.
29 km
Climb approx.
340 m
Difficulty
moderate

Start: right from the front door

This extended version of the lakes loop takes you via St. Veit and the Dobrowa oak forest to Sittersdorf, to the unspoilt Gösselsdorfer See and back via Eberndorf with its abbey. Right next to the Turnersee, a detour to the Sablatnigmoor is well worth it – one of the most important bird sanctuaries in Carinthia. On an e-bike you will barely notice the little climbs between the lakes.

  • Gösselsdorfer See and the Dobrowa oak forest
  • Stift Eberndorf (abbey)
  • Detour: Sablatnigmoor with more than 170 bird species
Path on the Kitzelberg with a view of the Klopeiner See and the Turnersee

Kitzelberg loop with viewpoint

Distance approx.
21 km
Climb approx.
390 m
Difficulty
moderate

Start: right from the front door

For those who like things a little hillier – partly on gravel tracks: from Seelach you climb up the Kitzelberg, where a viewpoint rewards you with views over the lakes and across to the Karawanks. Then it’s an easy ride via St. Veit im Jauntal and St. Primus – right past our house – to the Sablatnigmoor and back via Grabelsdorf and Unterburg.

  • Viewpoint on the Kitzelberg
  • Small villages of the municipality of St. Kanzian
  • Klopeiner See, Kleinsee, Turnersee

6-Lakes Loop to the foot of the Petzen

Distance approx.
54 km
Climb approx.
760 m
Difficulty
challenging

Start: right from the front door

The big lakes tour links six lakes in one day: Klopeiner See, Kleinsee, Turnersee, Gösselsdorfer See, the hidden Sonnegger See and – via Globasnitz – the Pirkdorfer See at the foot of the Petzen. The way back takes you via Loibegg and Eberndorf with its former Augustinian canons’ abbey – a day to savour, with ever-changing views of the Karawanks.

  • Six lakes in one day
  • Pirkdorfer See with views of the Petzen
  • Stift Eberndorf (abbey)

Drava Loop: Völkermarkter Stausee & Drava Cycle Path R1

Distance approx.
32 km
Climb approx.
200 m
Difficulty
easy

Start: right from the front door

North of our house, the Drava is dammed to form the Völkermarkter Stausee, a reservoir some 21 km long. Via St. Kanzian and Untersammelsdorf you reach the Drava Cycle Path R1 – one of the most popular river cycle routes in Austria – and ride through the woods along the water to the Völkermarkt Drava bridge. On the other bank you continue via Neudenstein to the Tainach Drava bridge and back via Stein im Jauntal. The e-bike takes care of the climb from the reservoir up to the lakes.

  • Drava Cycle Path R1, awarded 5 stars by the ADFC
  • Crossing the Drava twice, wide views across the reservoir
  • Vogelschutzgebiet Neudenstein (bird sanctuary), churches of Stein im Jauntal

Tips for your e-bike holiday

Charging & storage

Included in your stay: safe, free charging for your batteries and sheltered storage for your bikes. On the road there is an e-bike charging station, for example at the Bike Break at the Turnersee.

Hiring an e-bike

Not bringing your own e-bike? There are many places in the region to hire e-bikes and bikes, for example through “Kärnten rent e-Bike”. Just ask us – we will give you a tip for hire and servicing nearby.

Guided tours

With the Aktiv Card Südkärnten, a free guest card, you can join guided leisure-cycling and mountain-bike tours from May to September. More about the Aktiv Card →

Ride safely

A helmet is a must – in Austria it is compulsory for children under 12. Take a lock for your break by the lake, and in summer plan your tours for the morning: thunderstorms often build up over the mountains in the afternoon.
